The Villosa Lilac is a low suckering alternative to the Common Lilac, but less drought-tolerant and fragrant. Its pink-lavender flowers appear later than Common Lilac so they can be combined to extend the flowering season in a hedgerow. It is a dense shrub with a rounded habit and grows best with good air circulation in organically rich, moist, slightly acidic soils with good drainage. It does not do well in sandy soil. It is cold tolerant, but flower buds may not survive a late frost. It produces new shoots from the base of old stems so it should not be pruned except to lightly shape.

Note: Bare root (BR) stock is only available until May 11. Viability is not guaranteed for bare root stock that is not picked up promptly.
