An early season, fast growing honeyberry of Russian descent with good productivity. The elongated, dark blue berries have a sweet flavour and a fleshy texture. Berries can be used for fresh eating, preserves or frozen. The multi-stemmed shrub will grow in a mostly rounded form and requires minimal pruning.
Haskaps, also known as honeyberries, are a hardy cross between a honeysuckle and a blueberry. Haskap are hardy to -47ºC and their blossoms can tolerate a frost of -7ºC without damage. Haskap berries take about 5-10 days after they turn colour to become fully ripe. They tolerate a wide range of soil acidity, but prefer well draining soil (plant on hill or berm if poor draining soil). Requires another haskap/honeyberry that flowers at the same time to bear fruit.
