Vitis 'Valiant'

Valiant is the cold hardiest grape on the market. It produces very tight clusters of 1 cm (1.5-2g) juicy blue-purple grapes. The grapes are similar to Concord with a thick, tart skin that easily separates from the sweet flesh. They are good for fresh eating, cooking, preserves, and juice/wine. It is a heavy producer so pruning some of the clusters off to ensure the others mature fully many be required. A mature vine can produce 9 to 18 kg of grapes.

Valiant will require strategic pruning for best fruit production. Prefers moist, well drained soil. Self-fertile, but increased production when more than one variety is planted nearby. Overall disease resistant, but some susceptibility to downy mildew.
