A vigorous, dense, and high-producing gooseberry that produces large (3.6 g), red berries in mid-summer. The berries are sweet with a tart skin and are rich in antioxidants, and contain vitamins C, B5, B6 and E as well as copper, manganese, and potassium. They can be used for fresh eating, preserves, jams, and juices (wine). Good resistance rust and powdery mildew. Plants start bearing fruit at 2 years old reaching mature bearing age by 4-5 years. They will remain productive for 15-20 years or more. Very thorny.
Gooseberries prefer moist soil and good air flow so space at 4-5 ft (1.5-2m) apart. Keep the base area under the plant clear of weeds so roots don't compete for nutrients and water. Shade from hot evening sun is preferred in hotter climates. It is shade tolerant so it is a good understory plant in your food forest.
