Currant - Golden

Golden Currant is a native, dense-growing, high-yielding understory shrub that produces yellow blossoms in the spring that smell similar to vanilla or cloves and attract hummingbirds. The small, mildly tart, black berries have a hint of clove in their flavour, and can be used for jams, jellies, or dried.

The leaves are similar to gooseberry leaves and turn a reddish colour in the fall. The root stock can be used to graft other currants onto it. It can tolerate part shade and poor soils. Prefers well-draining, moist, clay loam soil. Can be used as a hedge.

Bare root are only available early spring.
