The Evans cherry shrub/small tree gets larger than many of the other cherry varieties from the University of Sask. It is a heavy producer of tart, juicy, bright-red berries with yellow flesh that are 1.5 cm in diameter and weigh about 4.4 g. Brix rating of 18. The berries are good for fresh eating, cooking, preserves, and juice.

The Evans cherry tree was discovered by Ieuan Evans in Mrs. Bower's farm near Fort Saskatchewan where they had been growing since the 1920s. It is ungrafted and hardy on its own rootstock and is one of the parents of the romance series of cherries developed by the University of Saskatchewan.
