Bela Lugosi Daylily produces large (6″ wide) deep velvety purple flowers with a lime green throat. It blooms midseason so it may produce a second set of flowers.
Daylilies tolerate heat, poor soils, and can adapt to a variety of growing conditions. Every part of the daylily plant is edible, including the flower buds, flowers, young shoots, and tubers. The buds are particularly noted for their flavor, which is often compared to a mix of asparagus and green peas. Parts of the daylily have also been used traditionally for medicinal benefits.
